Sir Walter Westley Russell(1867-1949): Life drawing
of male model in profile(1932)
Executed in black and red chalk, a technique used by both Rubens
and Watteau, this drawing was probably done while Russell was
the Keeper of the Royal Academy Schools. In many ways this shows
all the qualities of Slade draughtsmanship which Russell imparted
to his pupils. The rendering of the arm is beautifully articulated.
