James Pryde(1866-1941): William Nicholson (1897)
With a black line, a touch of grey and a dash of yellow, Pryde
has managed to capture the dandified figure of Nicholson with
unnerving economy in this striking lithograph. Pryde was born
in Edinburgh and based much of his work on it's romantic and sinister
past. In my opinion he is the greatest Scottish painter of the
20th Century - his handling of paint is second to none.
